Spring Kitchen Decor Ideas

I always like to keep my spring kitchen decor simplified. Our kitchen was intentionally designed to have one row of open shelving that could be used for seasonal decor, as well as everyday dishes.

Typically, I confine my seasonal decor to our open shelving and a simple centerpiece on the kitchen island. This is just more calming for me, in a space that already becomes the dumping ground for school papers and nerf guns.

Why the nerf guns? Because, a real family lives here. 😉 And if any of you have a tried and true method for avoiding this arsenal on your kitchen island, I’m all ears!

Using Florals on Open Shelving

Throughout my home I always mix live plants with faux florals. I find it is much easier to care for indoor leafy greens than for flowering plants. You can find my favorite indoor plants for beginners here.

So, while I have over 20 real plants in my home, I always go faux for florals. Tulips are a fool proof spring flower and my favorite real touch tulips are extremely realistic. You can find them in almost any color!

I also add in poppies every now and then. I love how whimsical they are.

For my kitchen open shelving, I decided to go with a very simple and straight forward overflowing display of multicolored tulips. I love how it makes a statement and is a great pop of color without being overwhelming.

I used a vintage ironstone vase as my main vessel, and then added a couple of sweet bud vases to make it a grouping. Grouped vessels always add more interest to a display!

Next, I rearranged some of my everyday kitchen staples underneath my open shelving. I always have my mug rack on the counter along with my favorite collection of cutting boards.

These everyday items are practical but pretty at the same time!

Kitchen Island Decor

For my kitchen island, I typically keep it very minimal. The best way to create a display on a work surface is to place your spring decor on top of a tray or shallow bowl.

This makes it easy to remove whenever you need to use your island for everyday needs or entertaining. I always look for unique pieces like this antique hand carved wood bowl to group my decor in.

Simple trays or cutting boards are another great way to design a centerpiece that is convenient to move!

In our dining room, I wanted to create a statement piece with florals. You can learn all about how I created this flower wall art in this post (along with a video tutorial).

It was such a simple DIY project using the same faux tulips and poppies I used in the spring kitchen decor!

It could also be a fun way to dry fresh flowers while enjoying a little whimsy decor at the same time!

Simple Additions of Spring

Since my flower wall makes a statement on its own, I wanted the rest of my spring dining room to be subdued.

I grouped my collection of antique ironstone pitchers in the inset of our double sided fireplace and just added a few faux ferns for a pop of color.

The rest of the dining room remains very simplistic, letting live plants add interest!

I often find that I prefer the simplicity of a live plant as my dining room centerpiece over fussy displays or grand tablescapes. While there is certainly a place to deck out a room, I keep it simple and sweet for our every day decor.
