Today I’ll be sharing my main living area. Throughout the week I’ll be adding additional posts with more of my Christmas decorations in the dining room, entryway and kitchen, as well as more details on my living room decor. Neutral Modern Farmhouse Christmas
Past Christmas decor has been much more involved than my plans for this year. After working intensely on my basement remodel for two months I was ready for simple and quick Christmas decorations. I opted to use lots of greenery and natural elements alongside simple statement pieces. Candles, greenery, and black accents are on repeat.
Fireplace Mantel & Hearth
I wrote all about how I created this Christmas mantel {here} and I love how the understated natural elements let the Christmas tree take center stage. The key to my modern farmhouse Christmas decorations is mixing in rich wood tones for the farmhouse feel with statement pieces like my more modern black mirror.
And of course, what is a mantel without the stockings? I love chunky knit stockings because they remind me of an old time Christmas where actual stockings were used and simplicity was the key.
Living Room
For the living room, I chose to use most of my regular decor and cozy pillows rather than themed decor. Using one large statement sign packs a punch rather than adding lots of different themed decor.
I also love to add flocked (or glittered) trees. They are a simple addition to a neutral modern farmhouse Christmas theme and bring festivity without feeling overwhelming.
Placing naked trees into simple baskets warms up the space and creates a cozy environment. Plus, it helps to cover the standard base of a fake tree!
This year I chose to go with chunky, knit, and highly textured pillows as my main accent in the living room. These pillows can be carried through the winter without having to store them away because they aren’t specifically Christmas themed. I love being able to use pillows as accents because of their practicality (everyone likes to be comfortable!) and their appearance.
Entryway
And here is a little sneak peek into my entryway for the season. Since we don’t have walls partitioning our entryway I created an entryway zone with an area rug and this console table.
I love how easy it is to add simple winter greens to the table, along with some candles, and the entryway immediately feels festive! I’ll have more details on the entryway in the coming days.
