Organic Modern Interior Design
This is the first of two Christmas home tours I’ll be sharing! Today, I’m excited to focus on Christmas interior decorating from an organic modern design perspective.
So, what is organic modern interior design?
Organic modern style is a combination of modern design elements and natural materials. It’s a beautiful juxtaposition between the more sleek and clean look of modern design, and the rustic and earthy nature of organic materials.
You can learn more about this style in my YouTube series on how to determine and implement your interior design style.

Organic Modern Christmas Decorating
With that quick definition in mind, let’s talk specifically about organic modern holiday decor ideas!
Since organic modern design combines two opposing design styles, it creates so much interest and contrast in a home.
For instance, my fireplace mantel has both organic and modern elements. (You can learn how to create my mantel garland in this article.)
For the modern elements, you’ll find:
- Bottle brush trees
- Sleek mirror
- Black candles
- Metallic accents
- Neutral colors
For the organic elements, you’ll find:
- A variety of greenery
- Pine cones
- Pampas grass wreath
- Logs
- Pine boughs
- Natural woven basket
- Barn beam mantel
When combined, it creates a beautiful display of contrasting elements.
If I were to use only modern elements and take out all of the organic Christmas decorations, it would be a completely different look. And vice versa.
Organic Modern Christmas Ideas
Before we go any further, I want to give you 21 organic modern Christmas interior decorating elements to consider. We will break this down into “organic” and “modern” so you can easily see the distinction.
Organic Christmas Decorations
- Orange peel slices
- Logs
- Pine boughs
- Evergreen wreaths
- Cedar garland
- Pampas grass wreaths
- Vintage pottery
- Wood bowls
- Paper mâché bowls
- Wood walking sticks

Modern Christmas Decorations

- Bells
- Cone trees
- Lighted decor
- Metallic accents

- Neutral color scheme
Each of these elements can add either modern or organic style to your home. However, combine them, and you have a totally new look!

Next, I want to share my full organic modern Christmas home tour!
First stop, the kitchen.
In the kitchen I love using lots of organic elements.
- Houseplants
- Natural stone cutting boards
- Marble mortar and pestles
- Christmas greenery
I add those items to my more modern kitchen to create a cozier kitchen design. You can see more details of my Christmas kitchen in this article.
Second, let’s head to the living room.
In the living room I combined sleek and modern sofas with rustic tables for the main furnishings. The Christmas decor is sparingly added with a focus on the modern white Christmas tree.
Do you spy the homemade star on top? That is my daughter’s handiwork and more beautiful than any store bought star!
On the opposite side of the living space I have my DIY china cabinet filled with organic modern Christmas decorations.
You can see how I used 20 natural elements to decorate this cabinet in this article.
In the entryway, I did a very small amount of decor. It is a small space and I wanted it to feel more modern with only slight touches of organic rustic design.
My son made this walking stick that adds an organic feel to the space. I love being able to display homemade pieces like this that brings so many meaningful memories to our home.
Organic Modern Decor Sources
I hope you enjoyed seeing a glimpse of some of the rooms in my home for the holidays! Stay tuned for my second Christmas home tour where I’ll be focusing on using neutral Christmas decor that doesn’t feel sterile.
