Creating a Welcoming Entrance

Your front door is the first impression of your home for yourself, your family and all guests you get to welcome to your home. That’s why I love creating a beautiful entrance that is still low key.

Long ago, I gave up on fussy planters, multiple beds to water and flowers that don’t thrive in my climate. Instead, I opted for simple perennials, low maintenance ferns, and a pretty pop of color.

You can read all about how I designed my front yard landscaping this year in this post.

It has truly given me back the enjoyment of a beautifully landscaped entrance by strategically using simple planters that don’t require daily watering. I now have time to actually enjoy the beauty of our front entrance!

Simple Living Kitchen Decor

Next, let’s head into the heart of the home and the most used space for summer entertaining: the kitchen!

My kitchen is the easiest room in our home to decorate for any season. However, summer is especially simple. I shared a couple of weeks ago this free printable for my blog subscribers that I centered most of my kitchen decor on.

I am truly enjoying the more earthy hues of terra cotta, rich wood tones, and simple summery pops of color.

Our floating shelf is the one space I decorate in the kitchen. I love that it allows me to make a statement while keeping the rest of the kitchen decor understated.

Simple Living with Plants, Flowers, & Propagation

Of course, if you’ve followed along with me for any length of time, then you know that indoor plants are my favorite decor staple. I’ve rounded up tons of my favorites, plus plant care tips, for you in these posts!

For summer, one easy addition to this space is a potted flower. I love dahlias! Since they don’t overwinter well in Michigan, I enjoy them as potted plants. This beautiful yellow is the perfect pop of summery color.

Besides a few new potted plants, I also like to take advantage of the summer sunlight and use my window sill as a growing station.

Pothos propagation

Here are a few tips on how to propagate indoor plants if you’re interested! I love that I’m growing new plants but also enjoying the beauty of simple living with a few touches of green in a simple vase.

Yard Cuttings

Another simple way to bring beauty into your home for summer is with yard cuttings. Look beyond flowers and snip branches from bushes or trees for a simple arrangement that makes a big impact.

I’ve always loved the whimsical nature that cut branches create in a room. Summer is a beautiful season to enjoy decor that isn’t too perfect.

  1. I love your double wreaths on your doors – so fun to have two doors to decorate! And of course your kitchen is absolutely dreamy and always styled so beautifully for the season. Gorgeous tour, Sarah!

  2. Gah! Your kitchen is a dream, friend. I don’t think that I would get anything done in there! Your rich island is beautiful against the white cabinetry. Beautiful as always!
