Vintage Farmhouse Mantel Decor
I am so excited to give you more details on how I designed my vintage farmhouse mantel decor for fall! Designing my mantel for the first time in our new home was important to me since we love to cozy up to the fireplace during the crisp fall nights.
I don’t love our fireplace design currently and plan to update it over the long winter months. However, until then I wanted to at least make the mantel an enjoyable focal point and I think I’ve accomplished that! So today I wanted to break down how I designed my farmhouse mantel decor with a touch of vintage and romance.

Now for the vintage farmhouse mantel decor! Traditionally, I would pile pumpkins all over my fall mantel, however, this year I wanted to do something more romantic and a touch whimsy. Here is the breakdown of my design process if you’re interested in the “How”.
Mantel Decor | Step By Step
Step 1
Choose a focal point. This beautiful sign was custom made by Our Kindred Home and I love how it grounds the space while toning down the romanticism of the florals.
Step 2
Pick your accents. I wanted to use these beautiful florals to add color and interest rather than going with a completely neutral color palette. I love how cozy the colors are since they are a perfect complement to fall. In addition to the florals, I used vintage (and some new) books to keep the vintage farmhouse mantel decor in theme and add character. You can see my number one tip for how to create a neutral book base with new books {here}.
Step 3
Add varying heights. You’ll notice that I have candles of varying heights already. In addition, I use books to elevate the pumpkins and strategically place florals draping and cascading downward as well. This adds interest and draws the eye to the little details.
Step 4
Design in layers. My focal point is the backdrop with cascading florals in the foreground. Next, books create the opportunity to add vertical layers while creating space for florals to drape in front. This gives movement to the space.
Step 5
Incorporate different textures. In my farmhouse mantel decor I used paper, glass, fabric, wood, metal, and natural elements. All of the different textures work together to create an engaging space that captures your attention.
Create Your Own
And that’s all there is to it!
- Choose a focal point
- Add accents of varying interest
- Style with height and depth in mind
- Design in layers
- Mix textures for added interest
Now, granted, this is only one way to style a vintage farmhouse mantel. Depending on your taste, you can create a simplistic mantel with a few books and candlesticks and call it good! Or, you can add even more depth by layering something large on the wall behind your focal point as a backdrop. The sky is the limit and your design should be something you love.
I hope this gives you some ideas for creating your own vintage farmhouse mantel decor this fall!
