How to Use Everyday Dishes for Your Holiday Table Decor
It’s the holiday season and I absolutely love this time of year! The cozy decor, the twinkle lights, friends and family gathered around a table. It’s all so magical. But it can also become expensive! So I’ve teamed up with Joss & Main to show how to transition your tablescape through the seasons. Here are a few tips on how to use everyday dishes for your holiday table decor.

Using Everyday Dishes for your Holiday Table Decor
Many people automatically think that we must theme our decor for the season. However, I am not one to go buy Christmas dishes that will sit in my basement for 364 days! I would much rather invest in quality dishes I can use everyday that can easily be dressed up with other decor that transcends the seasons. So today I’m excited to give you some quick tips for creating a cozy holiday table without breaking the bank on themed decor!
Tip 1: Add Layers
To start, I layer my plates and bowls to add height and interest. Swapping a plain white dish in with this beautiful grey dish set sets off the other two pieces and breaks up the color.
Additionally, rather than purchase a Christmas table cloth, I have layered three different runners that can be used for any season. This plaid linen runner can be mixed with decor from any season because of it’s neutral color and pattern. It pairs so nicely with a fall runner I already had.
Using linens also sets off your flatware nicely. This everyday durable set is another beautiful metal to mix in to help with my next tip, achieving a soft glow.
Tip 2: Add Something That Glows
Holiday table decor is so easy to pull off by simply adding a few shiny items. For my table, I’ve added several layers of candles to cast a soft glow. If you place these strategically next to metal tones it helps reflect the glow and warm the space. I used these stemless wine glasses with a touch of gold to help create this illusion.
Tip 3: Add Greenery
Do you rotate decor around your home? It is my number one way to stretch my decor and create beautiful spaces. This magnolia garland is so realistic with beautiful leathery leaves.
It can be used for any season by swapping out different types of florals. For spring you can add tulips, summer it can stand alone, fall you could pair it with branches or leaves and for winter I’ve added eucalyptus.
I also stole these mini Christmas trees from a different spot in my home for the occasion. Once the table is cleared, they can go right back to their original home!
Tip 4: Don’t Neglect Surrounding Areas
It is easy to focus on holiday table decor and forget to include the surrounding areas of the room in design plans. My dining room has little room for furniture, so I try to make the most of it by decking out my buffet with festive touches.
I’ll be sharing how I created this wreath wall decor next week, but for now you can see that it is simple to mix non-Christmas decor with a few holiday items. {UPDATE: You can see how I made this wreath wall HERE.}
This set of bells is so reminiscent of days past and I just love how the metals mix seamlessly with my candelabra.
Adding a simple sign to my layered mirrors is all that this space needs. And we are ready for dessert and coffee!
