Classic Chili Recipe

A Classic Slow Cooker Chili Recipe (Stove Top Too!)

Do you have a recipe that brings back fond memories for you? For me, one of those is my mom’s classic chili recipe. She always cooks it on the stove top, but I rarely am able to have 2-3 hours around dinner time that I’m able to use that method.

So, I decided to try mom’s recipe as slow cooker chili and it worked perfectly!

Bowl of chili with plaid towel.

This is such a simple dinner recipe with the only hands on time being the short 5 minutes it takes to brown ground beef.

The rest is a dump and go method, so let’s get to the best crockpot chili you’ll ever have!

Slow Cooker Chili Method

The first step is to brown your ground beef and onions. I also add a clove of garlic at the end of this step to just toast it lightly. If you place the garlic in right away it overcooks quickly.

Once your ground beef has been cooked, drain off the grease.

The second step is to dump everything in the crockpot! The hardest part of this crockpot chili recipe is opening all the cans.

Stir all the ingredients together thoroughly and cook on low 8-10 hours.

That is literally it! I always serve chili with shredded cheese and cornbread for that extra hearty and cozy touch.

Stove Top Chili Version

If you would rather cook this chili recipe on the stove top, you simply follow all the same directions, except instead of dumping all the ingredients into a crock pot, you place them in a large soup pot.

Simmer your chili on low for 2-3 hours on the stove top and serve!

This recipe is so simple. And simple is how I roll when it comes to food. Make sure to check out my simple, fast and delicious recipe archive!
