Hybrid Mattress Review

Throughout the decades (let’s not try to count them, mmmmkay) I’ve slept on many different styles of mattresses. Full spring, full foam, pillow top, pillow top + foam, brick…..that’s what I called my last one. All of them promised to be the best night’s sleep I’ve ever had, however, most of them failed me. So this time I was happy to try out the hybrid mattress by Solay to see what all the hype was about.

I’ve slept on my Solay hybrid mattress for over a month and have waited this long to give my review to see how it held up. If you follow me on Instagram then you saw the behind the scenes and have heard my initial feedback so far. Now, for the full hybrid mattress review.

What is a hybrid mattress?

If you’re unfamiliar with the new hybrid mattress, it is a combination of foam + springs. The support and longevity of traditional springs, plus the comfort of foam. Solay’s luxury hybrid mattress specifically offers three separate layers of foam all serving a different purpose, one support layer, and a layer of 6 inch spring coils.

Set Up

If you’re like me, then you greatly dislike mattress shopping. Laying awkwardly in the middle of a store, trying to see if you like a mattress within 5 minutes of body contact. It’s no fun. And it’s fairly useless, if you ask me. It is nearly impossible to see if a mattress works to meet your needs after 5 minutes.

So when Solay delivered my mattress to my door (with a standard 101 day trial period) I was excited. No awkward laying with a sales person watching me creepily. No hauling it home. Just open the box, cut the vacuum sealed bag, and a mattress appeared before my eyes! (Of course, with the help of my husband. It was definitely a two man job.)

Even though the hybrid mattress is foam + springs, I loved that it was still able to be delivered in this way. The first night’s sleep wasn’t what I expected and I blame myself. Due to busy schedules we decided to open our mattress at 8:30 p.m. and then slept on it one hour later. My advice? Don’t do that.

Since our mattress was vacuum sealed it needed more than an hour to fully form. While it appeared to have  expanded to full size, I could tell the first night it needed more time. The second night and every night thereafter has been a different story.

The Experience

Rather than detail every night the last thirty days (you’re welcome) I thought it would be easiest to summarize my thoughts on our hybrid mattress review.

Note: I would define this mattress as medium-supportive. There is plenty of support without it feeling rigid. (This is simply my personal opinion as someone who prefers a mattress that is not extra firm.)

Pros

  • Foam layers are cooling! Previous foam mattresses have held our body heat, but the Solay mattress is comfortable and has regulated our body heat with ease.
  • Springs are supportive. Whereas previous mattresses have sagged under our body weight the Solay mattress helps align the spine to avoid discomfort.
  • Foam+springs have “give”. While we feel supported, we also feel comfortable. The combination of springs and foam allows my husband and I to move in the night without waking the other up because of the gentle movement the hybrid allows.
  • It’s thick! Most of our recent mattresses have been so thin that they were swimming in our sheets! Not only do the sheets fit this 11 inch mattress, it is also substantial enough to look aesthetically pleasing with our headboard. I like my bed to be a focal point and a scrawny mattress was never ideal.
  • We are over 30 days in and loving our Solay hybrid mattress, but I am so happy to know I have another 70 days risk free to ensure we love it long term.

Cons

  • Our kids are now consistently jumping on our bed at 6:30 a.m. because they’ve never experienced the joy of springs before. ๐Ÿ˜‰
