The Proverbs 31 Woman | Monday Musings of Grace
Happy Monday friends! Today I want to start a mini series on fashion! I know. That’s weird. I’m a home decor blogger. Stick with me my friends. ๐ I’ve had so many requests from my Insta-Friends to talk more about simple fashion tips that I thought I would oblige my sweet friends. But I’m no fashionista over here (#letsbereal) so that means I’m starting off my fashion mini-series with a look at the Proverbs 31 woman.
I want to be grounded in who we are in Christ before I encroach upon such a worldly-driven topic. Fashion can easily become a little mini-god. Am I stylish enough? Is my makeup done just right? Does it matter that I don’t have designer handbags or solid gold rings? These are common questions that our world constantly makes us question our WORTH over.

Now, please hear me when I say that fashion itself or desiring to be fashionable is not bad! This isn’t a bash on fashion. In fact, I love fashion! I love when women feel as beautiful as they look. However, there is a fine line between enjoying fashion and letting it consume us.
So, for today’s Monday Musings of Grace, let’s take a moment and talk about who we are, as women (sorry fellas), in God’s eyes. Proverbs 31 is a great passage full of wisdom for us to dwell on. Below I’m sharing snippets of this passage (you can read the full passage here).
Proverbs 31
An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Let’s Break That Down
God has a lot to say about women! In this passage alone He talks about our value. “An excellent wife is far more precious than jewels!” And all the women said!: “You got that right.” ๐
A woman who is far more precious than jewels is: trustworthy, good, industrious, has a servant’s heart, smart, hard working, a provider, strong, generous, caring, prepared, has dignity, wise, teaches, blessed, loved, and fears the Lord. That is all right there in Proverbs 31!
There is nowhere in this entire passage that says that a woman of value is well dressed, or that she is loved because she’s a trend setter. It says that she is far more precious than jewels because of her character, her love for others, and her fear of the Lord. THAT is a woman to be praised.
You Are Far More Precious Than Jewels
Ladies! You are far more precious than jewels!! So instead of desiring larger diamonds or that sparkling tennis bracelet to make you feel loved, know that you already have more value in God’s eyes than any earthly gem or jewel when you are living out the Proverbs 31 woman.
While there have been many books written on how to follow the “guidelines” of Proverbs 31, I like to keep it simple. Am I a woman of Godly character? Do I love and serve others? Am I giving glory to God through my actions? Done. I am personally really bad about following daily outlines for life, so I make it simple by asking these three questions. Hopefully that helps you too!
(P.S. If you are someone who enjoys more detailed guidelines there are MANY books available here that dive into this further! I have not personally read these so I don’t have a recommendation but read through the reviews for other’s experiences!)
Loved Beyond Measure
Now let’s talk real quick about how fashion can be a reminder of our worth. It doesn’t give us worth, but it can help us see it. I love to combine my love of Christ with my love of simple fashion and one of the easiest ways to do that is through personalized jewelry. My sweet necklace which says, “Loved Beyond Measure“, is a reminder every time I wear it that God loves me unconditionally.
I’ll expound more on my take on fashion throughout the series; however, for now I want you to know that YOU ARE PRECIOUS. See yourself through God’s eyes instead of the world’s eyes because you HAVE WORTH and are loved beyond measure. If you want to dive a little deeper into that topic, head back a few musings to my post, Am I Enough?
Be blessed my friends and make sure to check out Part 2 and Part 3 in the fashion mini-series!
