Easy Fall Front Porch Ideas 2025
This year I wanted to change up the look of my traditional autumn front porch decor with simple swaps. You can see last year’s fall front porch below.

Here’s how I built out my fall front porch ideas step by step.
Leave Healthy Summer Porch Pots and Add to Them
First of all, if your summer pots are still healthy, then they are a welcome addition to any fall porch.

If there are just a few annuals that are sad looking, simply remove them. If you feel there is too big of a hole left behind, add in fall grasses, mums or ornamental cabbage or kale.

I love to keep my Boston ferns out as long as possible. They tend to do well with the cooler temps as long as they are protected by the porch.
Substitute Real Fall Plants for Faux
Next, I pop in my favorite faux plants for the front porch.
Cedar topiaries and these gorgeous faux mums.

They are two my of my most realistic faux plants that do well outdoors. I actually left my mums outside for an entire year and they still look brand new. They worked perfectly in every season.
You can see 50+ of my favorite faux plants here.
Gather Dried Branches or Stems from the Yard
Once the front door is flanked by pretty pots and faux plants, see how you can dress up your porch columns.
I simply attached branches I cut and dried from our tree with zip ties to the column. Then, I added in fresh hydrangea stems strategically.

You can also dry your hydrangeas first. However, they dry very beautifully even without water if you cut them at the end of the season before they brown.
If you don’t have porch columns, then you can get the same look by securing branches in dirt in a porch pot. Zip ties or twine will help hold them together.
In my opinion, this step is one that you would take if you really want to make a statement. You could omit this step and still have a classically beautiful fall front porch.
Decorate the Door
A front door wreath is a staple fall front porch idea. It has been used for decades and never fails.

If you want something different than your traditional wreath, try a basket full of cut panicle or smooth hydrangeas. Tear drop swags are also a pretty option.

Invest in a quality Front Door Mat
I love to keep the same non-seasonal door mat out year round. It is just simple and something that I never have to think about.

However, a door mat can also be a fun way to change up the look for the season. Especially if it is worn out. Updating worn door mats will go a long way in making your home look more appealing, even if it isn’t seasonally focused.
Add Solar Lanterns
Outdoor solar lights have changed my life.
I know it sounds dramatic. And perhaps it is. But I LOVE them.
They add the coziest glow. I have string lights draped along our back deck. Puck lights lining our garden steps. Mini lanterns inside of our garden beds. And solar globes dotted around the front landscaping.
And you know what I never have to do? Change batteries or light a candle.
So why not do the same for the traditional fall front porch lantern?

This year I added solar lanterns to my arsenal of outdoor solar lights and I love them. I have one on my porch and one hanging from a post. They glow so peacefully every night without me having to do a thing.
You can see how they look lit at night in this video.
Paint the Front Door
One fall front porch idea that you may want to consider is painting your front door.
Obviously this isn’t something you’d do each year. (Unless you just really like a budget friendly change of pace!)
However, if the door is looking worse for wear, or you just don’t like the color, then painting the front door is an excellent option.
This year I updated our chipped, and not my style, door from cherry red to a muted brown/grey. It is the color Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams.
I love how the color is perfect for fall!
Adjust for the Changing Season
The final step is being open to changing the front porch as the season progresses.
September is great for a look like I’ve shown here.
October would be perfect to add pumpkins.
SHOP FALL
And you could dress it up for November with more harvest-related items like corn husks, straw bales, and plaids.
Along the way, remove any withering plants. These simple swaps will keep the front porch looking fresh all season long with minimal effort.
