Vintage Farmhouse Decor | Living Room Update
Do you have a favorite room in your home? For me, it’s always been the living room. Perhaps that’s because it’s where all the action takes place. Where my kids play, where we read books together, where our small group gathers, where I work, or where my husband and I have morning coffee on the off chance that we have a quiet weekend. It is my little haven carved out of the large home we are blessed with. So today I thought I would show you around my favorite spot and tell you a little about how I designed it with vintage farmhouse decor in mind.

Vintage Farmhouse Decor
Every Piece Tells a Story
I’ve always loved history; I even majored in it in college. However, my love of vintage decor only grew in the last 5 years or so. There is just something about a piece that tells a story. A wood bowl that held bread dough to feed children. A vintage demijohn used to provide wines or olive oil. Oil paintings that may be from a no-name artist, but are still precious all the same.
Each piece tells a story. Not only of its own past, but of my present. You may see a stack of wooden bowls that scream vintage farmhouse decor. I see seven different memories. Who I was with when I found them, what I had to climb through to dig them out, how heavy they were to carry, and smiles and laughter over the ridiculousness of the hunt.
Value In Honoring Things of the Past
There is value in honoring things of the past by giving them new life in my home. Perhaps there is even a lesson for us to learn. A lesson about how to treat things or people society deems worthless. Others see “old”, I see timeless. Some see brokenness, I see something that was pushed until it could go no further. Scratches, dents, cracks…all just evidence that it served a purpose for years.
People are the same way. We are all a little broken. We all have dents and cracks we’d rather hide. Most of us want to serve a purpose and be valuable to others. We just need people to see us.
Oddly enough, I think I may be a little bit like my living room. Filled with moments of brokenness; even needing to be fixed up every now and then. But, when push comes to shove I hope to always provide this space to those who need it and to use those moments to shine His Light to others.
Well friends, I started this post intending to talk all about how I designed this room using vintage farmhouse decor. My heart led me elsewhere, and I think that’s ok. ๐
Be blessed,

Hi Sarah. Absolutely love the makeover. Would never have thought about going so bold.
What color are the bedroom doors and trim in this home? Any pictures?
I absolutely love it! Where are the chairs from?
I love your look my house is similar but not as light and bright as yours! I too love pieces that tell a story, I love the color of your walls can you tell me what it is?
Thanks for sharing, you were the inspiration I needed
Thank you so much! Our wall color is Shiplap by magnolia home.
I love your living room! I have very similar colored wood trim all throughout the downstairs of my house (which is an open floor plan) and am having a really hard time deciding whether or not I should paint it white or not. Have you kept your baseboards this natural color? It looks great with the white walls, maybe that is the key. Mine currently look so dull and 90’s to me.
I ended up painting all our wood trim! My advice, if you keep going back and forth about painting it, then it probably means you aren’t satisfied with it kept as wood and would probably love the painted look. Go for it!
What a beautiful room. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and home. I pinned several ideas.
Blessings ๐ Have a wonderful day.
Sue

Thank you Ashley! It is Shiplap by Magnolia Kilz.
Very pretty and well said! Thank you for the heart inspiration above all. I struggle with wanting things to look perfect before I reach out and shine His light. I hold back. But this is a reminder to be REAL and to walk by Grace.
I’m so glad it was helpful to you Suzanna!
Love your room – thank you for posting. I’ve been eyeing the Everett Foyer table for a while. Could you share where the couch is from?
Thank you Erika! The everett table is my favorite!! One of the only new pieces of furniture I’ve splurged on. The couch is from Ikea. ๐
I really enjoyed this lovely post, Sarah.

I love your story about vintage decor, I see it the same way. “Others see ‘old’, I see timeless.” I love that.
