Why buy four when you can buy one? 😉🌿 I’m Why buy four when you can buy one? 😉🌿

I’m using Boston ferns but so many other plants can do the same! If it’s big enough, divide away.

What other plants do you do this with?

The Everyday Kitchen, a series where I’m sharing The Everyday Kitchen, a series where I’m sharing functional kitchen design for the everyday home. Part 4!

As much as it is possible with your layout, place daily dishes directly across from the dishwasher. Also, drawers for plates and bowls are excellent. Pots and pans get stored near the stove as they are usually hand washed anyway.

But all the little pieces of glassware, silverware, and so on: definitely design it across from the dishwasher so unloading is super speedy. 🙌🏻

Now, the experts say you should have 42”-48” b Now, the experts say you should have 42”-48” between your island and your counter. Personally, if you have the space, I say go for 50”. It’s about the top end of what I’d recommend. 48-50” is the sweet spot.

It’s not too much that the space feels expansive or like it’s too far to work on both sides. But it’s enough that multiple people can be working in the sandwiched area without getting frustrated.

And definitely keep in mind opening dishwashers and ovens for clearance.

If you don’t have a wide space, just go as big as your kitchen allows.

There’s another functional kitchen recommendation hidden in this video. Can you guess what it is? 🤗

Repeat after me: don’t waste money on weed fabri Repeat after me: don’t waste money on weed fabric. From a recovering weed fabric advocate. 💁🏻‍♀️

The previous owners had 3 LAYERS of weed fabric down, layered with mulch and soil AND ROCK. My back shall never be the same.

Do we want to spend hours weeding? No we do not. Do we want to slowly suffocate our soil? No we do not. Here’s the solution.

Layer organic material like leaves on top of weed free soil. I use preen as well, but I’m not 100% sold on its effectiveness. Then layer 2-3 inches of mulch and hand weed as soon as you see the boogers pop up.

I have a huge landscaped area so I’ll likely have to do a pass every 1-2 days to stay on top of it.

But when you keep on top of it, it’s much easier to control. You can also use cardboard as a weed barrier that will decompose over time and does work fantastic to suppress weeds. Just make sure you don’t have any labels or plastic tape left on it. They also make cardboard that’s for soil, specifically for this purpose, even better than your average shipping box. Comment LINKS for info.

Who else has fallen prey to the landscape fabric scam? 🤦🏻‍♀️🫣 Don’t worry, we can take back our yards one back breaking day at a time. 😘
