Fall Home Decor Ideas | 8 Autumn Home Tours
Happy Fall Ya’ll! I’m excited to share fall home decor ideas with you along with seven other talented bloggers for an Autumn Home Tour blog hop! If you’re visiting from Mint Candy Designs, thanks for hopping over!
Let me just start by saying that I love fall. Not as much as summer, but I love it just the same. If only Michigan winters didn’t follow fall I would love it even more. ๐ One of the things I love the most is decorating for this beautiful season with all of its color, crispness and coziness, which I like to call the three C’s of autumn. So I hope that you see those C’s in my home this year!

Fall Home Decor Ideas
Now let’s get to it! Fall home decor ideas are everywhere! There is so much inspiration out there (a lot of which I’ve pinned for you if you follow me on Pinterest). So today I want to share some simple and cozy fall decor ideas using lots of natural elements, layering, and comfort items.
(Did you miss my tutorial on how I refinished this dining table? Make sure to check it out here after the home tour!)
Fall Decor: Natural Elements
Autumn boasts some of the most beautiful natural elements with all of the colors of fall, drying hydrangeas and pumpkins galore. So make sure to incorporate those elements to keep your decor grounded. I like to use LOTS (as you can see….) of pumpkins in my fall decor because they have an easy way of making a home feel less stuffy and more cozy. Plus, they are cheap, provide a variety of colors, and add visual interest with extra natural textures.
Add Layers: Master the Pumpkin Stack
What do you think about when you think of fall? I think of layers. Layers of clothing. ๐ Layers of colors. Layers of blankets. ๐ So what better way to add interest to a home than to also add layers? Now, many of you may be minimalists. And if that works for you then by all means, continue to simplify. But I am most assuredly not a minimalist. I tried and failed and moved on to another pumpkin stack. ๐
As you can see with my dining buffet, I love to layer in several wood tones for warmth, pumpkins atop of pumpkins for texture, and greenery for an extra fresh touch.
Now, I’ve just gotta say that I have an amazing pumpkin lady (as I like to call her) who sells these gorgeous pumpkins and gourds for ridiculously cheap prices. I’m talking $.25 a pumpkin. Woot! So if you don’t have a local farmer or your own fantastic pumpkin lady then you’ll most likely be spending a bit more than I did to get this many pumpkins. In which case, I might recommend you slowly purchase a few very realistic looking faux pumpkins each year to slowly build up your stash. By doing this, your seasonal decor will last you many years!
Invest In Unique Pieces
Beyond the natural elements, I like to add a few unique pieces that catch your eye and are unusual. These are pieces that you may have to exercise patience in finding, but the hunt can be just as fun as the find! My vintage dough bowls are an absolute favorite find from an auction this past summer. Vintage pieces add warmth and history which is always a talking point with guests. The best part is, they aren’t anything crazy or off the wall! They are just bowls. But they are beautiful, handcrafted, and rare. All of the best elements wrapped into these utilitarian beauties.
Cozy Up with Textiles
Another layer that is a no-brainer for me in my fall home decor is textiles. Everyone wants to snuggle into a comfy blanket and pillow when the chill of fall arrives, so I bring out extra comfort. Now, let’s be honest. I am a bit of a pillow addict. My husband likes to ask if I’m in need of counseling. But let me tell ya, when the pillows are missing he is the first to ask where his comfort went! ๐
A couple of my favorite pillows are simple buffalo check, velvet (for that extra warmth) sage green, and a simple and fresh white. I’m not one for lots of designs on my pillows because I want them to be able to stretch the seasons.
Know Your Limits
My last little tip is to know your fall home decor limits! We all have them and sometimes the pressure to “keep up with the Joneses” is just plain silly. While I love to go all out with my fall home decor in the main living spaces of my home, I just don’t love to in my kitchen. My kitchen is always a cluttered mess. Toys. (Why kids? Why?) Paperwork (I only love mail when it isn’t bills. ;)) Random items that should never be in a kitchen (Can you say, “trash can” my lovely family?) The kitchen has enough drama of its own being a landing space for life, therefore I do not decorate for the seasons in my kitchen! Except, for one simple shelf area.
As you can see, the only fall home decor to grace my kitchen shelves are three little faux pieces. A couple of Target dollar spot (holla!) pumpkins and a brass pear I found at a flea market once upon a time for $.50. That is enough for me! Just a little touch of fall in this practical catch all space. Perfecto. Moving on.
Have Fun!
Most importantly, have fun with your fall home decor! If you don’t love it, redo it! I am not ashamed to say that I decorated my entire home for fall early September and lived with it for two weeks and hated it. So I scrapped it and did it again! And now it brings me joy. It’s really the simple things for me. A little pumpkin stack and some reminders to give thanks with a grateful heart are all I need.
A Reminder That I am Blessed
Fall is definitely a time of year when we dwell on thankfulness and I’m grateful for the reminders I have in my home to be thankful and remember how blessed I am.
What is your favorite way to decorate for fall? Do you lean toward minimalism or are you a pumpkin stacker? I’d love to hear from you! Can you give me the details on your fireplace stone?
Unfortunately, I don’t have the specifics! We chose the stone from a local stone yard and didn’t save the name.
