Fall Inspired Modern Rustic Decor
Late this summer I decided I was committed to buying little-to-no fall decor. Or at the very least, anything I did buy needed to be able to serve two seasons. So this year’s fall decor is very simplistic compared to years past.

I’ve come to a point in my fall decorating where less is more. The season seems to be so short here in Michigan and my style has become more simplistic.

I kept seeing a reoccurring theme of rustic wood tones, natural grey and tan hues, and richly textured fabrics in the images that were inspiring me.

So, I decided to use my existing traditional fall decor, like pumpkins and faux florals, alongside some new pillows that have a more modern rustic decor vibe. {Use code GRACE15 for 15% off my favorite pillow shop!}
Modern Rustic Entryway
My entryway has traditionally taken on a vintage farmhouse vibe. I’ve started to edge more modern in my styling but love the character that the farmhouse style adds.

So, for my fall entryway I wanted to make a simplistic statement, if that can be a thing, with this easy DIY leaf display.

I love how it feels a little rustic as though you’re in a forest of changing and windblown leaves. It was so simple and only took me 5 minutes to create!

For the rest of my entryway decor, I simply used rich natural textures and tones to mimic the colors of the season. These baskets with leather handles are my favorite new addition!
You can see above that they are beautiful whether styled empty, with florals, or overflowing with pumpkins.

Opposite my leaf wall, I’ve created a barrier to the living room with my favorite console table. I topped it with another very simple DIY wood centerpiece I built.
I love how versatile that piece is! It was such an easy building project for beginners and I’ve already styled it three ways for fall. The rest of the table just has some cozy elements stacked to give a nod towards the impending cold.
Modern Rustic Living Room
Our “formal” living room is my favorite room in the house. I give formal quotes because there is nothing formal about it. It is such a casual space and our family fully lives in it on a daily basis.

This fall, I added some warmth to the space with simple grey curtains. My wood bowl gallery wall was a favorite amongst my Instagram friends. I shared the process of how I hung my favorite vintage wood bowl collection in Instagram stories and most loved the idea.

I plan to share a blog post about that project soon as well! But, I love the warm textures the bowls give to the room, and they play so nicely off my leather pillows and amber bottles.

These simple color changes give that rustic feel to an otherwise modernized space. I love that fall decor doesn’t have to be complicated or piled with seasonal decor! These easy additions make this space cozy and mimic the feeling of autumn.

I agree, less is more, especially for fall decor. And I’m obsessed with your wall leaf display. It’s so subtle and beautiful
Thank you my friend! Your tour is so stunning! I’m walking away with so much inspiration too.
I love your style and how you’ve created such a beautiful room. Mixing modern furniture elements and farmhouse decor is not easy to pull off, but you’ve mastered this design so perfectly. Tons of pretty inspiration. Thanks so much for joining the tour this season.
Thank you Marty! It is such a pleasure to join you for this tour!
your home is so lovely, sarah! my favorite part is that entry with the cascading leaves- such a fun touch!
Thank you Cassie! I’m so glad I tried something different.
Such a wonderful tour! I love how you paired traditional autumnal colors with copious amount of white. It’s a joy to participate in this tour with you.
Thank you so much! I do love my neutrals 😉
The wood bowl gallery and the leaf wall at the entrance are such stunners! Love all those earthy tones you have added throughout your home. beautiful home tour!
Thank you so much Cristina! It was fun to try something new and out of the box.
Wow, so pretty Sarah!! Love that entry especially and those doors!!
Thank you so much Anita!
sarah- what a beautiful home you have. Can’t get over how creative and pretty your leaves on the wall are. Enjoy the fall season before your cold winter shows up!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
Your home looks so gorgeous, Sarah. I love your aesthetic and i totally agree with you on the seasonal decor…less is truly more.
Thank you Erica! I do enjoy simple fall decor. 🙂
Oh man you gave me some good ideas. I love the leaves on the wall. So cute.
Thank you so much Tamara! If you give it a try make sure to tag me so I can see!
I love the wood bowls on the wall and the dancing leaves, which totally appear real and I lan to copy at my entrance. If fall is short in MI, imagine how short it is on Florida’s Treasure Coast, like 20 minutes long! Plus we are barely post Hurricane Dorian and it is HOT! And no, I can’t imagine telling anyone who didn’t ask for my opinion what I don’t like in their house. How did you hang the wood bowls. I don’t do instagram so couldn’t find the info on hanginf them. I have several wood bowls I’d like to hang for fall. Your newest subscriber, Pam
Thank you so much for stopping by the blog Pamela! The wood bowls are attached with plate hangers, for the most part. I plan to do a tutorial with photos soon!
Everything is so beautiful for fall. I’m with you…..I did very little for fall this year. Here in SC is stays summer well into October! It’s like we go from summer to winter in an instant!
It feels the same way in Michigan! Except our winter often starts in October. Ha! So I will be enjoying September while it lasts.
Oh this is all so pretty! I love the natural and organic look, especially for fall!
So happy to join you on the tours this week. Have a great fall!
Thank you so much Amber!
Sarah, I have to agree with your Instagram friends–that bowl collection is awesome and I love the way you’ve hung them! I’m so glad to have discovered your blog. I have lots of family in Michigan and agree that fall is short (too short), but so beautiful up there. Enjoy it before the first snowfall! 😉
Thank you so much Christy! I’m definitely not ready for snow, ha! So I’ll enjoy fall while it lasts.
I have been feeling the same way about not buying new things this year! I love your leaf wall! That is so fun! I also love your wooden bowls on the wall, it was fun to watch that come to life on IG!
Thanks Kristin! It’s always fun to try new things!
Everything looks so beautiful! I love the leaves on the wall in the entry – so creative!
Thank you Jennifer! It was a fun project to try.
Sarah your home is beautiful. I love all the subtle colors and nods to fall. I love being on this tour with you! 🙂

Thank you so much Laura! That means a lot!
Your house looks so beautiful, Sarah!
Thank you so much!
your home looks lovely for fall sarah!
Thank you so much Ashley! As does yours!
Your modern style has great warmth. The decor is perfect with the natural wood doors. The windows give the scenic view of the season. Very comfortable and inviting.
Thank you so much Margaret! That means a lot!
Beautiful decorations for fall! I love the colors. May I ask where you purchased the black leaf prints you have displayed above your open bookcase?
Thank you so much! The leaf prints are actually hand painted by my mother! You can find her on Instagram @weathervanefarm if you’d like to inquire about custom paintings!
I love this! Where did you get those beautiful leaves that you put on your wall?
They were pulled apart from an old faux floral bush!
