Four Ways to Style a Tray

Love it? Share it!

Hey Friends!

It is the start of another week and today I wanted to share with you one of the things that I love to do. Styling trays. Yes, I know. It’s probably not groundbreaking. BUT, to me it is fun. So I thought I’d share some tips and tricks for a super simple way to add little touches of style to your decor.

And bonus! It is all contained in one small space. Queue the cheers from moms everywhere!

Want an easy way to add interest to your home? Here are four ways to style a tray for an easy centerpiece or decor focal point.

Four Simple Ways to Style A Tray

So here we go. Get yourself a tray. I personally LOVE my hand carved wood tray from Sugar and Succulents. I have a vintage cheese strainer I use a lot as a tray but it is so deep I can never see what I style in it. My wood tray is nice and shallow and humongous. So I can cram it full of my goodies. 😉 Whatever tray you go for, make sure it is shallow and large enough to hold several items.

So, even though there are a million ways to use trays in your house, here are four simple ways to style a tray.

Add Layers For A Simple Centerpiece

You know what is really important to me when I have a centerpiece on my dining table? Being able to remove it! Let’s be honest, no one has a table large enough to keep the centerpiece on it while you also feed people. The food tends to take center stage. So I love building my centerpieces inside a tray so I can easily take it off the table when the time comes. For this one I started with my wood tray, added a magnolia wreath inside of it, and placed a cake stand in the middle to give more height to the rest of my pieces. That way the pumpkin, sign, and candle aren’t buried in the foliage and it is easy to see. Layer it up!

Add Dimension & Texture

You know what I really like to do with a vignette? Clutter it up! I know. Seriously if you know me you know that clutter is my worst enemy. Except when it is all contained in a small space and is intentional. For this simple Christmas vignette I wanted to have lots of different textures. The mix of the metals, woods, greenery and glass adds interest. The wood bead garland is my attempt at a reindeer reign. I kinda like it. 😉 Throw in a super cute ornament reminding us of the season and it is good to go.

Any designer will tell you that similar objects grouped together provide a bigger impact than if they are scattered throughout the house. But I personally like this trick because all of my glassware can be up high away from little fingers. And dog tails. And, it is pretty. So there is that too.

Be Practical: Organize with Zones

I would be remiss if I didn’t appeal to the practical side of me in this post. A tray is a genius way to make your everyday essentials pretty. Create a zone for each of your daily staples and collect them in one handy dandy spot for easy access. Plus, then you won’t ever be searching the couch cushions for the remotes again!

And just for kicks and giggles, I’m throwing in a fifth tip, even though it was supposed to be four ways to style a tray. Because I’m a rebel like that.

There is nothing complicated about this one. I have certain decor that I love, I want it all in one place, and I want people to see it. So I collect it into a tray because it looks pulled together and I plop it on by entryway table. Simple and easy.

So now that you’ve seen a few ways to style a tray, I’m thinking you might want to get yourself one. I’ve linked up some fun ones below! Click the image to shop.
