Homemade Thinking of You Gift Idea
The gift of thought is often the best gift we can give. For those who are sick, out of work, going through a rough time, or just in need of some love, sending a “thinking of you” care package is something that is always appreciated. Here is an affordable homemade “thinking of you” gift idea that is perfect for friends, family and neighbors!

Thinking of You Gift Idea
Providing homemade gift baskets is a timeless tradition going back generations. Food is a comfort to those going through rough times, but it is also a treat for those who are celebrating milestones or special occasions.

So, this week I wanted to provide a simple care package to gift to our family to let them know we are thinking of them and miss them. What better way to do that than with some homemade treats!

While I love giving non-food gifts as well, there is something extra special about making something myself and taking the time to show someone they are loved and thought of.
This time around, I wanted my kids to be a part of this to help teach them the value of spreading joy to others and helping them feel loved and remembered.
Plus, this is a very attainable way to make someone’s day with an affordable care package.
Here are a few tips to make a homemade thinking of you gift package extra special!
Start with the Vessel/Tray
The most accommodating care package is one that doesn’t require dishes to be returned. It’s not always possible to do this, but my care package is going to be made up of delectable, yet simple, treats.

So, all I need is a simple tray to display my goodies. I love finding affordable serving dishes like this artisanal kitchen tray to be a part of my care packages.
Under $12, this tray fits the perfect amount of goodies and is a great serving dish for your recipients to keep and use on a regular basis to serve their own family or guests.
In addition, I love these beautiful faux hydrangeas as a simple accent. It is just something special that can be used to add a touch of pretty to your gift.
Add the Main Feature
Next, include something that will be the main feature of your “thinking of you” gift package. Ideally, this would be something that is a favorite of your recipient.

For our care packages, I chose to go with a favorite cupcake displayed in these adorable baking cups that are perfect for spring! It is those little extra touches that make these types of homemade care packages special.

Baked goods are a family favorite, so we also made up some classic shortbread chocolate chip cookies to include.

My daughter and I love baking together, and I love Bed Bath and Beyond‘s baking supplies. Their variety is incredible, but my favorite basic baking tools are:
- Glass Liquid Measuring Cup
- Stainless Steel Dry Measuring Cup Set
- Non-Stick Muffin Tins
- Air Bake Cookie Sheets (In an extremely affordable set of 2!)

Add Something Unexpected
Once you have the base of your “thinking of you” gift package, find something unexpected to add.

I found these adorable chocolate molds to try out. I love that they can be used for specific holidays, like Easter, but are also applicable all spring. How cute are they?! It was fun to try something new and create these cute egg accents to add to our gift package.
Here’s a tip: fill them a little less full than the top line to make them easier to slide together. I may have learned this the hard way.

Hand Deliver It
If you’re able, the final special touch to this kind of care package is to hand deliver it. Sending care packages in the mail are still so special for those far away, but if you’re able, delivering it in person is the best!

Not only do you get to see the smile on your recipient’s face, but you also get to give them the gift of time to really connect and check in.
It can also be a fun door-dash gift if you want to surprise someone just to make their day!
Stay Connected
Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today! While this is a tried and true gift giving concept, I hope it inspires you to consider who might need a little pick me up right now. I’m sure you’ll make their day with a simple care package that shows them you are thinking of them.
