Easy Ways to Decorate a Kitchen for Fall

My simple formula for decorating a kitchen for fall is:

  • Fall foliage bouquet
  • Single ceramic pumpkin
  • Kitchen related antiques in a fall color scheme
  • Moody kitchen runner
  • Single piece of fall artwork
  • Fall foods and drinks

I like to keep it simple and quick.

I also prefer to keep my countertops mostly clear so my decor doesn’t interrupt with the cooking and cleaning that needs to be done on a daily basis.

Many of the ideas in my list of 25 timeless kitchen decor ideas for fall are centered on a few themes. Let’s break it down and then you can make it your own with items you likely already have on hand!

5 Senses of Fall

While the majority of fall decorating focuses on sight, I will make the argument that the other 4 senses are just as important. Especially in the kitchen!

With that in mind, consider how you are decorating for fall through smell, sound, tactile, and taste.

Fall Dishes and Cookware

The simplest kitchen decor ideas for fall are simply to swap your dishes.

While I personally prefer to keep my main dishes fairly neutral, you may love having a set of dishes for each occasion or holiday. If that’s the case, try mix and matching neutral everyday dishes in with themed dishes, like the ones below.

Copper feels especially fall related. So if you have a copper collection, consider displaying it rather than storing it in cupboards.

Fall Foliage & Natural Items in the Kitchen

Nothing truly says fall like changing leaves. So why not bring them into your fall kitchen decor?

I love dried eucalyptus and dried grasses. Hobby Lobby has a great selection of these if you can’t source your own.

However, my favorite fall foliage is collected straight from my yard. Grass plumes and hydrangeas are two that dry very easily and can make a statement.

Wreaths are another great option. Whether you hang it in a window, on your range hood, or on cabinet doors, a fall wreath is the perfect touch.

If you’re looking for something less fragile than dried florals, that you can store away each year, browse these favorite faux options.

And of course, real pumpkins will always be a fall staple. You can use mini pumpkins as place setting accents too when you dress up your fall table.

  1. Hi Sarah,

Im in the middle of a huge remodel. We’re down to studs, joist, insulation…the works…lol Funny enough I also have a huge mountain stone fireplace that will be in the new, larger kitchen area as you do. Ours is what heats our entire house though. My plan has chairs facing the fireplace and facing away from the kitchen area. I love how you have yours facing the kitchen and now I am reconsidering the outlet in the floor! Ugh! I am also doing a very custom design and my cabinets will be all walnut. So our tastes are similar. Where Im struggling is the appliances. I am so worried about spending the money on them and having them break. I am designing my cabinets/countertop to be wider than the standard 24″. Im going with 28 or 29 inches so I have more surface to work. My issue with that is I will have about 2-3″ of space behind my range therefore a standard hood wont cover my range top. I noticed your hood is deeper. Can you tell me where you got your hood? I am looking at Hoodsly, but I am concerned about it not being deep enough. I have really enjoyed your blog, videos and appreciate the advice, especially since our tastes and remodel are very similar.

    Thank you
    Melinda

    1. Hi Melinda! We have a standard vent insert installed into a custom hood. Our cabinet maker made it. You might check with your local woodworkers to see if someone could create the size you need!
