Earth Tones & Natural Elements

Over the last year I have begun to gravitate towards earthy elements. Natural colors, heavy textures, natural fiber materials, and moodier colors are items I look for often. My master bedroom makeover started my love for an earthy color palette.

White, cream, browns, tans, greens and black are all hues that fall into this category and mimic nature.

These earth tones are common place in pieces that I love like stoneware, wood bowls, natural fiber baskets, and live plants. So, I’ve been thrilled to see that an earthy color palette is becoming a trend!

I’ve rounded up some of my favorites currently available from home decor stores. Some of these items rival the look of handmade items and I’m loving seeing some earthenware pieces available.

And, of course, I am a live plant lover. You can see my round up of favorite beginner plants here as well as some tips on how to become a “plant lady” here.

But, if you don’t want to fuss with live plants, I was happy to see some very realistic faux plants come out in mass as well. My best tip on choosing faux plants: go with muted hues.

Neon greens are rarer in nature and in faux plants it can quickly look plastic and fake. Choose faux plants that have a more leathery leaf or petal and offer less shine on the leaves. This will make them look most realistic.

And of course, heavily textured items are a great way to incorporate natural-feeling home decor. Baskets are an amazing example, but don’t overlook soft linen, cozy velvets, waffled fabrics and imperfect stoneware.
