You get a chance to teach her life lessons. ☺️ Designing a room involves a million choices. Not only does it teach you about your own likes and dislikes, but you also learn practical life skills like color matching, measuring, scale and placement and most of all, creativity. Whether she knows it or not, with this room design she learned:
- How to pick a paint color that brings energy and life when she sees it.
- How to mix and match patterns
- What her passions are (what she wants to see and display)
- What she needs in a space to enjoy it
- How to organize possessions
- How to handle when you make a mistake or don’t like something you thought you would
- How to problem solve
- How to ask for help when you need it and stand up for what you want when you don’t 😉

A kid’s room is the perfect space to let them stretch their independent muscles and learn a few things about ownership and home. After all, we all eventually need to learn these skills when we grow up. What better time to learn? 🤗

15 minutes and $26 dollars later, I have a wood to

15 minutes and $26 dollars later, I have a wood top to “replace” this 70s laminate!

Addie has this adorable built in art desk. Rather than rip out a perfectly stable (ahem…and already installed) top, I decided to bring it up to modern standards using a wood contact paper. Thankfully, the paper I found is the exact measurement needed to go front to back AND down the front face to make it completely seamless. I used this exact same paper 5 years ago in my old laundry room and it never had any issues.
Contact paper installs just like peel and stick wallpaper and it only took me 15 minutes to complete! Comment WOODDESK and I’ll send the paper I used to your DMs. There are a few color variations to pick from as well.

This is why you always paint over caulk. This is also why, you always use paintable caulk!
So many houses I’ve moved into have had caulked trim that was never painted afterward. This leaves a sticky line that grabs dirt and dust and eventually yellows over time. It is very hard to clean unless you use a steamer. Even if you use white caulk with white baseboards or trim, you should still paint over it! This leaves a surface that is much easier to clean and will not yellow. So if you’re stuck in the same situation I’m showing here, here are two solutions:
1. Preferred option: repaint your trim and this time paint over the caulk line
2. In a pinch: If you’re already painting your walls and your trim has a very shallow top lip, just paint it the wall color! I wouldn’t do this if my trim was beefy, but that tiny thin line of most builder grade trims is hardly noticeable if painted the same color as the wall.
Both options coat your caulk and leave you with a clean look and an easier to dust (or wipe down) baseboard. 👏🏻
