Two kitchens. Three years apart. Same rug. 🤣 Th Two kitchens. Three years apart. Same rug. 🤣 Thinking it might be time for a new one. My last home had a similar layout to the kitchen as my current home. Both long and narrow. Both wood islands, different stains. Both painted perimeters with floor to ceiling pantry cabinets. Definitely some differences as well. As part of my new series on the Everyday Kitchen, let’s talk sink placement. Old house: sink under a window Current house: sink in island I’ve seen pros and cons to both and don’t really feel there is a right or wrong way. Other than, sinks in small islands are not ideal as they take up most of your prep space. My islands are both 10 ft long so having the sink centered still gives plenty of prep area. NEW KITCHEN DESIGN SERIES! ✨ For years, I’ve NEW KITCHEN DESIGN SERIES! ✨ For years, I’ve studied Designer kitchens and I’m always in awe of the beauty of a well designed space. But if you have no functionality in a kitchen, it is a wasted opportunity no matter how beautiful it is. So I’m going to do a very simple design series on functional features in an everyday kitchen. Most of these can be integrated into an existing kitchen even if you aren’t needing a full remodel or new build kitchen. Make sure to hit the follow button to see all 10 recommendations! Part 1: Pull out double trash bins directly below your main prep space. We all want to hide away the trash in an integrated cabinet. But the placement of integrated trash/recycle bins is just as important. Place it directly next to the sink and under ample countertop for prep space. This is the highlight of a functional kitchen. Bonus: get yourself a pup to catch the scraps that fall. 😉 I’ve had both single and double pull out bins and I definitely prefer the double.
